Meet sydney

Hi! I’m Sydney- I’m a former Pediatric ICU nurse and I’ve been a Family Nurse Practitioner since 2018.  I’ve cared for women in a variety of settings (free clinic, primary care, urgent care), but it wasn’t until the birth of my own children that I discovered the inadequacy of postpartum healthcare and developed a passion for improving it.

FAQs

  • No, I do not accept insurance at this time.

My clients often take advantage of their HSA/FSA cards for my services.

  • All of my packages include a prenatal home visit, postpartum home visits, virtual support through our patient portal and text. Ability to order labwork at additional cost.

  • My care does not replace the care provided by your OB-GYN or midwife but is intended to provide additional support with a focus on health promotion and holistic wellness. Typically, you will have one postpartum visit with your OB-GYN at six weeks postpartum. Home visits with me will focus on your well-being in the time before and after that visit. Early home visits can help ensure that your body is healing properly, identify any potential complications, and provide mental health support as you navigate the dramatic hormone shifts postpartum. After your 6 week visit, ongoing postpartum care with me will provide further individualized support to monitor your physical and emotional recovery.

  • I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Ethics from Davidson College and a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from Johns Hopkins University. I obtained my Master’s in Nursing from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2018. I am a certified Family Nurse Practitioner with additional training in perinatal mental health (PMH-C) and nutrition. I worked as a registered nurse in the Pediatric ICU at VCU Medical Center before becoming a family nurse practitioner. I have previously worked in a free clinic, private practice, and currently work part-time in urgent care. My passion for women’s health and specifically postpartum care developed from a combination of my professional and personal experiences. I’ve cared for postpartum moms with acute medical needs and mental health concerns throughout my career, but it wasn’t until I had my own children that I truly understood first-hand the need for more on-going and comprehensive postpartum support.

Additional Labwork packages

Sydney offers comprehensive laboratory testing services to help identify and address common postpartum health concerns. Through targeted blood testing, Sydney can detect conditions that may be affecting your recovery and well-being, including anemia, vitamin and mineral deficiencies, thyroid imbalances, and factors contributing to low milk supply. This evidence-based approach allows for personalized treatment plans to help you feel your best during the postpartum period.

For your convenience, we've partnered with Rupa Health (www.rupahealth.com) to provide flexible lab testing options. Choose between at-home blood draws in the comfort of your own space or visiting a local laboratory location. Sydney will carefully interpret your results and develop appropriate recommendations based on your unique needs. Please note that labwork services are not included in Sydney's standard postpartum packages and are available for an additional fee.
